Training Contracts

A training contract with Foot Anstey

JOHN WESTWELL

MANAGING PARTNER

A TRAINING CONTRACT WITH FOOT ANSTEY

We like our trainees to stand out from the crowd. We look for excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally. We would also like you to have a genuine interest in the future plans and direction of Foot Anstey.

It goes without saying that all of our trainees have an exceptional academic background with a 2:1 degree or above in either Law or non-law with GDL. On top of this, we will do everything we can to support your LPC studies. We take into account your potential areas of law interest as well as your previous work experience, both legal and non-legal, and positions of responsibility, to ensure we get the full picture of you and your capabilities.

Contract timeline

TRAINING CONTRACT TIMELINE

Our training programme is designed to help you reach your full potential.

As one of our trainees, you will undertake six seats of four months across two years. Regular, open communication with your supervisors comes as standard. You will get lots of exposure to different situations and to people within the firm who will help you to develop your legal and commercial expertise, in an environment that is friendly and supportive.

We encourage our trainees to spend time in all our different office locations and practice areas across the region, including:
  • Commercial Property
  • Disputes Resolution
  • Commercial
  • Corporate
  • Employment
  • Clinical Negligence
  • Property Litigation
  • Construction
  • Planning
  • Islamic Finance
  • Media/IP Litigation
  • Agriculture

When you start, we will offer you a detailed induction and on-boarding programme over your first three months and assign you a buddy from the existing Trainee/NQ population. Our on-going training sessions help prepare you to become a fully qualified solicitor – both legal and non-legal – throughout your two-year training contract. You may also have the opportunity for a secondment with one of our clients as part of your training. Completing your PSC via the University of Law, there is a tailored training programme in place for trainees incorporating PSC modules and additional trainee-focused training. We put an emphasis on supported personal and professional development throughout your training contract and into your NQ period.

The last 12 months have seen our training sessions include:
  • Personal and professional impact
  • Working effectively
  • Time management
  • Conflict management
  • Networking
  • Law firm finance
  • Effective presentations

We ask all our Trainees to play a key role in our CSR and charitable activities - and you're actively encouraged to get involved in the firm's social calendar. As part of that you will also have a twice-yearly lunch with the Managing Partner.

Vacation scheme

Vacation Scheme

Our summer vacation scheme offers a short period of work experience during June, providing a valuable insight into our business and our different areas of legal expertise for those interested in applying for our training contracts.

Your first day will be spent finding out more about the firm followed by a period of time spent in a single office or practice area. If you do well on your work experience scheme, you will be invited to attend an assessment day that could see you become one of our trainees.
To take part in our vacation scheme, please submit your application by 1 April 2017. Applications will be shortlisted during April/May and we will contact you directly with more details.
